Barta is an SMS app for Android. This policy explains what it does with your information. It is short because the app does very little with it.
The short version
Barta reads the messages already on your phone, and shows them to you. It does not send them anywhere. There is no Barta account, no Barta server, and no company receiving your messages.
What Barta reads
To work as an SMS app, Barta needs access to:

Where your information goes
Nowhere. All of it stays on your phone, in storage only Barta can read.
Specifically, Barta does not:
- upload, copy or back up your messages, contacts or phone number
- contain any analytics, tracking or crash-reporting service
- ask you to create an account or sign in
- sell or share your information with anyone, because it never receives it
Updates are delivered by the Google Play Store, in the same way as any other app on your phone.
Advertising
Barta shows a banner advertisement at the bottom of the message list. It is supplied by Google AdMob, and it is the only part of the app that uses the internet.
What this means in practice:
- The advert is never shown on the one-time-code screen, inside a conversation, or while writing a message. Those screens have no advertising of any kind.
- AdMob is never given your messages, your contacts or your phone number. The part of the app that shows adverts cannot read them.
- Google may use your device’s advertising ID, along with general information such as your approximate location and device type, to choose which advert to show. This is Google’s processing, not Barta’s, and is covered by Google’s own privacy policy.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Settings → Google → Ads on your phone.
Company names and logos
Barta labels messages from businesses — your bank, your gas supplier — with the company’s name and logo, so you can recognise them at a glance. That identification happens entirely on your phone, by comparing the sender code in the message against a list built into the app. Nothing about your messages is sent anywhere to do it.
Company names and logos are the property of those companies and are used only to identify who sent you a message. Barta is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of them.
Fraud warnings
Barta marks some messages as possibly fraudulent, using rules built into the app and run on your phone. These are a warning, not a verdict — a message without a warning is not guaranteed safe, and a marked message is not necessarily fraud. Always judge for yourself, and never share a one-time code with anyone.
Children
Barta is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your information
Your messages belong to Android, not to Barta, and are shared with whichever SMS app you use. Barta’s own settings are removed when you uninstall the app.
To delete the messages themselves, delete them inside Barta or any SMS app.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address and the date at the top will change.
